This striking piece is part of my continuing exploration of peonies—this time moving towards a slightly less abstract, yet still conceptual style. Created using a blend of fluid art techniques and expressive brushwork, it features a vivid gold vase set against a moody backdrop of teals, greens, and turquoises.
The inspiration partly stems from a memory: a painting that hung in my grandmother’s home—magnolias in a vase, set against a deep, dark background. That image stayed with me, and helped shape the atmosphere of this piece.
Loose, painterly brushstrokes and touches of thick impasto, applied with a palette knife, bring texture and energy to the composition. The result is exactly what I had imagined—an evocative floral with a contemporary edge and a strong visual presence.
